One way is to encourage players who are playing Stableford and can't score is to pick the ball up and move to the next hole. But everyone does this don't they...?

I agree on the night owls, Jeff.
how about stricter marshalling? Also a word from the shop just to remind those playing to be aware of other golfers on the course. It may not cure slow play, but it may help it.
John you look slim in yellow. You cona da ostia!

Not mentioning any names but tell Portuguese, Neil, Trevor and Dr Dave to take up Bowls!

If it was mandatory to let people through if asked by the group behind and there was a new Yellow Card system, would anyone have the guts to report someone for not letting a group through?

My idea would be to have a stack of yellow cards next to the card drop boxes. If someone does not let a group through, after being asked nicely of course, then at the end of the round you can yellow card them. The card would be placed into the handicap box and reviewed by the committee on Mondays. Persistent offenders would be sanctioned in some way.

Matt,

If somebody is close enough to ask to be allowed to play through then its too late and the process of playing through will just delay both groups. Players have to be prepared to let followinggroups through when they start falling behind.

Great idea about the Yellow cards, I think that we have plenty of people who have more than enough guts to inform on others when it comes to slow play.

To recap the meetings and initiatives the committee have had on this since your letter;

- We met with the sweep captains (Jan 13th) to inform them helpful things they can do to avoid slow play
- We placed extra notices on the board and in the fixture book on this issue
- There is a motto that aims to get people in the right mindset and change the culture of TPGC being a slow course. This is on the new Fixture book and Bagtags
- The captains letter this year will echo the same
- We will look to provide the club with a slow play marshal for the Drummond this year to avoid any repeats of last year and may add extra conditions on the competition to penalise slow play. Still TBC.

We are really trying to inform players that small changes can make a big difference in time of the round. This was evident last week as we got round in 4h 15 mins.

The group in front of us last week were Japanese, and were physically running round the course to avoid slow play and although over the top, showed me that even visitors can play fast.

Thanks

Matt Clarke
